Various areas of Fresno State Student Housing have been modified to accommodate the needs of residents with physical disabilities. It is Fresno State Student Housing policy to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (42 U.S.C §§12101, et seq.). Applicants are mailed a form for Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). This form must be completed and returned to the SSD office within 14 days. Fresno State Student Housing has identified various rooms for the physically disabled. These rooms are available to residents who have a need for special accommodations and have submitted the request to the SSD office and a recommendation for special services is provided. All space is subject to availability. All rooms are located on the first floor of a hall and close to an exit. The Atrium exterior door on the west side of the hall can be opened by pressing the accessible button. A computer workstation with accessible features is available in the Atrium Computer Lab. Residence Life Staff are trained on how to evacuate a building and assist residents with physical disabilities.

Upon arrival or during the academic year, residents with disabilities are encouraged to contact the Assistant Director of Housing 559.278.2345, if the physical arrangements of the room or other areas of the complex are such that movement is difficult.

Applicants and current residents must notify the university and Fresno State Student Housing separately if they move.

Fresno State Student Housing address changes are submitted in writing at the Atrium Customer Service Desk or mailed to Fresno State Student Housing, 5152 N. Barton Avenue M/S RH 82, Fresno, CA 93740-8013 or you can log on to My Student Housing to change your information online.

New applicants should immediately notify Fresno State Student Housing of any address or phone number changes to expedite application status, bed assignment (subject to availability), and waiting list communication.

Current residents must submit a “Request to Forward Mail” card prior to moving as the United States Post Office does not accept address changes from students living on campus. First class mail only is forwarded for thirty days.

There are separate application processes for the University and Fresno State Student Housing. It is the student’s responsibility to apply and communicate separately with each entity.

Applicants are notified in writing of their application status (complete or incomplete) and bed availability (guaranteed bed or waiting list) approximately 14 days after receipt of application packet. It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact Fresno State Student Housing if application notification has not been received by August 1 or December 1 (New Spring only). See Important Dates and application status notification letter.

All applicants must submit a $50 Non-Refundable Application Fee with the completed application. If these fees are not paid at the time of application submission, the application will be considered incomplete.

Assignments are made based on priority status and the date the completed application was received (subject to bed availability). Every attempt will be made to honor the preferences indicated on the Application Personal Profile. However, because some halls or room types are requested more than others, it may not be possible to provide one of the top choices. Room and board fees are assessed based on assigned bed and selected meal plan. Applicants may be assigned to a permanent or temporary bed. Residents assigned to a permanent bed space pay the published rate for the room type the resident checks into. Residents assigned to a temporary room pay the daily room rate for the temporary room. If a resident is later assigned to a permanent room, a prorated room type fee is assessed beginning the day the resident moves into the permanent bed space.

Bicycle racks are available for residents to lock up their bicycles. Residents are strongly encouraged to secure their bike with a Kryptonite bike lock as Fresno State Student Housing will not be held responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged bicycle. A bike repair station is available, located outside of the west entrance to the Atrium. A bike shelter is also available, located outside of the north entrance of the Atrium. Be sure to register your bike on our website.

All applicants with guaranteed or assigned temporary or permanent beds must move in by the date specified in the application packet or your room may be assigned to another student unless you have given prior notification to the Housing Office. Upon moving in you must carefully review and complete your Room Condition Report (RCR), sign it, and return it to the check-in table or the Atrium Customer Service Desk. You are responsible for all items listed on the RCR. Check-in instructions are provided upon arrival. See the check-in brochure for details about moving in.

All residents must check-out at conclusion of the spring semester. Instructions will be provided by Fresno State Student Housing. Residents schedule their check-out date and time in advance with a Residential Life Staff member from their hall to avoid improper check-out fees. Residents are responsible for all damage within their room unless the damage was listed on the Room Condition Report (RCR) at check-in. Any discrepancies, as well as missing or damaged items, will be billed. Common area damages or excessive garbage in the common areas will be charged to the floor or wing residents. Damage or garbage in suite living rooms or bathrooms will be charged to suitemates. (Residents are not required to pack up their belongings for winter recess, but must check-out with a Resident Advisor).

In Community Style Halls, men live on one wing and women live on another. Bathrooms are gender designated. In Residence Suites, men and women may be in neighboring suites; however, all residents within a suite are the same gender. (Exception: Fresno State Student Housing offers Gender Neutral housing. For more information contact us at 559.278.2345)

(Returning residents only) The residence suites will have several suites designated as coed in Aspen, Ponderosa, Birch, and Sycamore. This is available only to returning residents. A bedroom will be designated as either male or female but men and women can share a two or three bedroom suite. The number of coed suites is limited and subject to approval by the Director of Housing. The men and women within the suite (3 to 6) will share the suite bathroom and living room. If after the first two weeks of classes you would like to move, you must follow the normal room change process and moving is subject to availability. If a resident from the coed suite moves, the suite must be converted back to a gender designated room. For more information, please call 559.278.2345.

Cable TV connection is available in each room provided by Comcast. Premium channels are available at an additional cost. Residents must supply their own TV for their rooms or suites. TV’s are located in each community style hall lobby and recreation room, as well as in the Atrium lobby.

Fresno State Student Housing communicates primarily with students via their permanent address (new applicants) or campus mailbox (current residents).
Student: The University and Fresno State Student Housing are separate entities. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate separately with each entity.

Your on-campus living package includes free use of the lab located in the Atrium. All computers have access to the pay-for-print laser printer. Free internet/e-mail service, access to campus library database, word processing, and spreadsheet and database software. A disabled resident work station is available. The lab is staffed by a Computer Lab Assistant and open daily from 7am – midnight during the academic year. The computer lab is closed during Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring recess.

Customer Service Desk (Atrium) is open 24 hours/7 days during the academic year. The desk is staffed by the Residence Life Staff from 8-12pm Monday-Wednesday (hours subject to change). During other hours, Atrium Desk assistants are available to provide assistance. In community-style halls (Baker, Graves and Homan) the hall desks are open from 7pm-11pm daily (including weekends) and are staffed by Residence Life Staff. Atrium Customer Service Desk operating hours for Thanksgiving, Winter recess, Spring recess and Summer are posted. Baker, Homan and Graves hall desk are open on Friday and Saturday until 1am.

As a “community of students,” it is necessary that everyone living in the halls assumes responsibility for maintaining the buildings that they live in. The “Student Housing and Meal Plan License Agreement” states that under Terms and Conditions of Occupancy, paragraph III, that residents “…refrain from altering, disturbing, or damaging the housing facilities, furnishings, common areas and surrounding environment; pay individually or in combination with other Licensees, a reasonable charge for any such damage….” This means that you will be held responsible for damages to the residence halls or damages or loss of common area furniture unless any damage or loss can be specifically assigned to individuals. Residents who damage, accidentally or intentionally, any residence hall property, may be charged for repair or replacement and may be sanctioned by the Residential Life and Student Conduct Coordinator or dismissed by the Assistant Director of Housing. Damaging residence hall property destroys the community environment everyone is working to build and can increase the cost to live in the halls. This type of behavior will not be tolerated and could result in dismissal.
You should maintain your room (and suite, if applicable) in the condition it was when you arrived. Any damages beyond normal wear-and-tear not noted on the Check-in/Check-out Inventory Form and any damages which occur during your residency will be repaired and maintenance costs billed to you. See Student Handbook for the partial list of repair or replacement costs.
Common area damage policy reflects the need for each member of a residence hall community to accept responsibility for the condition of his/her building. The cost of maintaining our facilities must ultimately be paid by the residents living here. Through the implementation of this policy, it is hoped that common area damage will decrease, the overall living environment will improve, and reasonable living costs maintained. Your active involvement in this process is essential. Fresno State Student Housing has a policy of zero tolerance for vandalism in the halls. Anyone engaging in such conduct may be dismissed, subject to monetary sanction and/or otherwise subject to civil or criminal proceedings.

During the school year there will be many opportunities to become involved with educational programming. The Residential Life Staff will be presenting programs on topics such as sex, alcohol awareness, safety, time management, etc. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend.

Fresno State Student Housing offers a wide variety of employment opportunities for students. All Fresno State Student Housing student employment is subject to the submission of all required documents and proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Community style hall residents must escort their guests at all times when they are in the hall. Suite residents must escort their guests in stairwells, laundry rooms, and on balconies. Each resident is responsible for their guests and their guest’s actions while they are visiting Fresno State Student Housing. Unescorted guests will be escorted out of the building by a Residential Life Staff member. All guests must be registered online.

The Financial Aid Payment Plan for Fresno State Student Housing is restricted to housing applicants who have:

a) Applied for financial aid awarded through the Fresno State Financial Aid Office no later than May 1 (academic year) or November 1 (New Spring) and

b) Been awarded Fresno State Financial Aid, Fresno State athletic scholarship or Smittcamp Honors College Scholarship through the Fresno State Financial Aid Office by deadlines (see application packet)

All other housing applicants must select a one, two or monthly payment plan and follow the appropriate payment schedule.

Financial Aid and Fresno State Athletic or Smittcamp Honors College scholarship applicants selecting on-campus living must:

a) Submit a $50 Non-Refundable Application fee and $150 Security Deposit with on-campus living application materials (see Complete On-Campus Living Application packet)

b) Submit Fresno State Student Housing’s Financial Aid Payment Plan Agreement with the completed on-campus living application packet by the deadlines listed in the application packet

c) Indicate whether or not a Parent Loan should automatically be applied to the applicant’s room and board by checking the appropriate box on the “Student Housing and Meal Plan License Agreement.”

d) Indicate whether or not Financial Aid should automatically be applied to the applicant’s room and board by checking the appropriate box on the “Student Housing and Meal Plan License Agreement.”

e) Attend one of Fresno State Student Housing’s Financial Aid/Housing Mandatory Workshops – New residents only (see Important Dates)

f) Pay the full room and board amount due combining award amount and personal funds, if needed. All housing and meal plan changes must be paid in full as follows:

Spring charges by April 5

Weight machines, stationary bicycles, stair-steppers, ellipticals and treadmills are available for the exclusive use of residents 24 hours per day during the academic year (ID required) in the Fresno State Student Housing Fitness Center located in the Atrium.

Fresno City College applicants may apply to live on campus. Fresno City College applicants will be assigned last and only if bed space is available.

Designated suites are reserved for students pursuing Graduate Degrees at Fresno State. These suites are subject to availability and based on receipt date of complete on-campus living application. A graduate student who is interested should be sure to mark the appropriate class level on their application.

All bed assignment is subject to availability. Applicants are notified in writing of their application status (complete or incomplete) or bed availability (guaranteed bed or Fresno State Student Housing waiting list). It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact Fresno State Student Housing if application status notification has not been received by August 1 (Fall/Spring) or December 1 (New Spring only).

A resident may host a guest (day or overnight) of the same or opposite gender. For an overnight guest, the resident must obtain advance permission from roommate, submit a “Guest Registration” online form for safety reasons, and number of nights is limited. (See escort policy).

Fresno State Student Housing currently contracts with an off-campus vendor for housekeeping and maintenance services for all Fresno State Student Housing buildings and halls. Their staff office is located in the east wing of the Atrium. During the academic year, housekeeping staff cleans community-style hall bathrooms once daily (including weekends) between 9 am and noon. During the one hour cleaning time the bathroom will be closed. Common areas are cleaned daily including stairwells, junctions, lobbies, recreation rooms, hallways and laundry rooms beginning at 8 am. Housekeeping staff clean suite bathrooms three times per week according to schedule. (See Student Handbook for more information).

Applicants who do not submit a complete on-campus living packet will not be guaranteed a bed space at Fresno State Student Housing until missing or incomplete items are completed (See “Complete on-campus living application packet” for required items)

Electronic card operates large capacity washers and dryers are available in each hall except Cedar and Ponderosa. Cedar and Ponderosa residents have access to Aspen or Birch laundry facilities by checking out a key at the Atrium Customer Service Desk. These machines are provided and maintained by Web Service Company. If there are problems with a machine, you should fill out a Facility Service Request form, providing the machine number and problem at the Atrium Customer Service Desk. These laundry machines accept debit/credit cards directly at the machine.

Learning Communities are available for the first 400 incoming freshmen who apply with Fresno State Student Housing and accept Fresno State before May 1 and register and pay for Dog Days before May 1. All freshmen who meet these requirements will be eligible to be a part of a Learning Community and will be guaranteed three (3) General Education classes for the Fall semester.

Each applicant signs an individual license agreement and is responsible for paying the fees for their assigned room and selected meal plan unless they have a designated payer. A resident’s occupancy is not affected by roommate(s) or suitemate(s) failure to pay their room and board fees.

New Applicants with guaranteed housing that arrive for the Spring semester sign a Spring only license agreement and are held to the Terms and Conditions. See license agreement for occupancy dates.

Residence Hall mail is picked up by the US Post Office Carrier to the Atrium Customer Service Desk once a day except on Sunday, US Post Office Holidays and December 25 – January 1. An outgoing mail receptacle is provided at the mailbox center at the Atrium. First class and post card stamps can be purchased at the US Post Office Express on the lower level of the University Student Union. UPS, Federal Express and other carriers also deliver packages to the Atrium Customer Service Desk.

Provided for each resident. They are located in each lobby of the community style halls (Baker, Graves and Homan) and in the Atrium for residence suites (Aspen, Birch, Cedar, Ponderosa, Sequoia and Sycamore). The mailbox has the same number as your room. During check-in residents receive their mailbox assignment and combination. On the reverse side of the card are operation instructions. If you cannot open your mailbox, ask your RA for help. If you are still unable to open it, complete a Facility Service Request Form.

Selection of one of the following meal plans is required and the cost is included. (See Room Rates & Info for payment amounts)

Platinum Meal Plan: Unlimited meals each week at the University Dining Hall, $150 flex cash, and 1 swipe per week at The Bucket (On-Campus Restaurant).
Gold Meal Plan: Select up to 10 meals served each week at University Dining Hall and $150 flex cash.
Silver Meal Plan: Select up to 7 meals served each week at University Dining Hall and $200 flex cash.
Flex cash is money that can be used at most of the Dining Services locations on-campus (Panda Express, Subway, etc.

* Meals carry over week to week but not semester to semester. There are no refunds for unused meals at the end of each semester.

Fresno State Student Housing reserves the right to convert unoccupied single occupancy rooms to double occupancy.
Single occupancy rooms (limited): One person is assigned to a single room.
Double occupancy rooms: Two same gender residents share a room. If a bed is not occupied during Fall check-in, a resident(s) will be assigned at any time during the course of the academic year. No resident will be denied an available space.
Triple occupancy rooms: Three same gender residents share a room. This option is available only in the suites.

One Bedroom (limited): Single or double occupancy. Up to two same gender residents share a bedroom, living room, bathroom, and hallway.
Two Bedroom (limited): Single, double, or triple occupancy. Up to three same-gender residents share a room and up to six residents share a living room, bathroom, and hallway.
Three Bedroom (limited): Single or double occupancy. Up to two same-gender residents share a room and up to six residents share a living room, bathroom, and hallway.

Our outdoor swimming pool is located between Graves and Homan Halls and is exclusively for the use of Fresno State Student Housing residents. No lifeguard is on duty. The pool is open 10am to dusk during the early part of Fall and the later part of the Spring semesters (the pool is not heated). No children under the age of 16 or non-residents are allowed during the academic year. No glass, running or diving is permitted. During summer conference season, a certified lifeguard is on duty. The pool is open and available to summer session residents as well as summer conference participants of all ages.

Residents must purchase a university permit to park on campus when classes are in session, including examination days. Overnight parking is only available in P27. For more parking permit and enforcement information visit http://www.fresnostate.edu/adminserv/police/traffic/

Application Fee (non-refundable): All applicants must submit a $50 Non-Refundable application fee with “Application Personal Profile,” “Student Housing and Meal Plan License Agreement,” “$150 Security Deposit,” “Payment Plan Agreement” “Emergency Information and Health Insurance Card,” and “Meningococcal form.”

Payments must be made in accordance with the payment schedule selected to avoid delinquency. See application packet.

$50 processing fee is charged for all payment plan changes or cancelled license agreements. (See cancellation policy & penalty information).

For safety and comfort of residents and in some cases to comply with federal, state and local laws the following are prohibited:

Weights & weightlifting equipment

Meets the needs of residents who desire to live and study in an environment with pre-established guidelines about noise and quiet. Quiet study hours are observed from 8:00pm to 7:00am (Sunday through Thursday) and midnight to 7:00am (Friday and Saturday). If you are assigned to a quiet hall (Homan, Aspen and Ponderosa), you will be expected to observe the guidelines that have been established.

Academic year residents may stay during Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring Recess for no additional charge. New Spring only residents may stay during Spring Recess. Meals are not included during these recesses. See Important Dates.

There is a recreation center in each of the community style halls (Baker, Graves, and Homan) available for use by the residents assigned to the hall. The University’s Student Recreation Center is available for all students to use. There is also a recreation center on the lower level of the University Student Union (The Bulldog Bowl) with a bowling alley, video games and billiards available to students for a fee.

Resident Directors (RDs), Assistant Resident Directors (ARDs), Resident Advisors (RAs) and Public Safety Assistants (PSAs) live on campus and are available to assist residents. Designated staff members are on-call 24 hours/7 days during the academic year. Residential Life Staff member duties include crisis intervention, roommate mediation, disciplinary meetings, overall hall administration, advising the Residence Halls Association, peer advising, coordinating floor/wing activities and programs, enforcing hall policies, conducting room inventories at check-in and check-out, performing health and safety inspections of all the residents’ rooms and handling desk duty. PSAs patrol the grounds, check buildings, un-prop doors, patrol the parking lot during late evening/early morning hours and provide safety programs.

Room and board fees are assessed based on assigned room and selected meal plan. If you are assigned to a temporary bed, room fee is calculated on assigned temporary bed and then on permanent bed space on effective move date.

If you are assigned to a permanent bed space, you will pay the published rate for the room type you check-in to. If you are first assigned to a temporary room, you will pay the daily room rate for the temporary room. If you are later assigned to a permanent room, you will pay the prorated room type fee beginning the day you move to the permanent bed space.

Room Assignments are done on a First come, first served basis, according to the time and date in which the completed on-campus living application packet is received. If bed is not available, applicant is placed on the Fresno State Student Housing waiting list.

Computerized room assignment software is used to assign residents based on
1. Returning resident
2. Date and time completed application received (subject to availability) and priority status
3. Gender match
4. Age comparison
5. Hall preference
6. Room occupancy
7. Roommate compatibility.

If bed space is available, assignments are made based on priority status and every attempt will be made to honor the preferences indicated on the Application Personal Profile; however, because some halls or room types are requested more than others, it may not be possible to provide one of the top choices.

If after the second week of instruction you or your roommate want to move to a different room, you must complete the room swap or room change process during designated weeks in the Fall and Spring semesters. Moves are subject to availability and approval of the Coordinator of Housing Operations.

Residents assigned to a double room have one roommate and residents assigned to a triple room have two roommates. Computerized room assignment software is used for room assignments. (Note: The computerized software does not match suitemates.)

Fall/Spring (academic year) housing applicants may request a specific roommate by completing the following steps:
1. Both roommates must write each other’s name and Fresno State ID Number on the “Application Personal Profile”
2. Both completed on-campus living applications must be submitted together
3. Both roommates must list the same hall/room/specialty area preferences
4. The completed applications must be submitted as soon as possible as roommate assignment is subject to double or triple room availability. Roommate requests are not guaranteed.

Spring only roommate selection is not available as new Spring applicants are assigned to beds vacated by academic year residents.

All applicants must submit a $150 Security Deposit with. If no damage occurs or clean up required, the $150 Security Deposit will be refunded by mail 3 to 6 weeks after check out inventory is approved (unless deposit is applied to following year).

Prohibited in all state buildings including Fresno State Student Housing’s halls, rooms and balconies. Smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas only. The illegal use or possession of controlled substances is prohibited.

During the academic year there are many opportunities for each resident to be involved. There are many social programs including BBQ’s, dances, karaoke and movie nights. Recreational programming is also offered (some with additional fees). For example, there are occasional field trips to Yosemite, the coast and other places.

Due to the high demand for on-campus living and because historically some residents cancel their license agreements prior to opening, Fresno State Student Housing assigns applicants to temporary bed space. If you are assigned to a temporary bed, Fresno State Student Housing staff makes every effort to move you to a permanent bed space within the first 30 days. However, the temporary bed assignment may be for a full semester. Residents must move to the permanent bed as soon as they are notified. Residents assigned to a temporary room pay the daily room rate for the temporary room. If a resident is later assigned to a permanent room, the prorated room type fee is assessed beginning the day the resident moves to the permanent bed space

The Fresno State Police Department is located at 2311 E. Barstow Avenue (under the campus water tower). The department is operational 24-hours a day, year round to protect the campus and to provide services to the students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. Apply early for your best opportunity to receive housing (see Important Dates). All bed spaces are subject to availability. If there are no more bed spaces available, applicants will be placed on the Fresno State Student Housing waiting list if a completed on-campus living application packet is submitted. Applicants are notified in writing of their application status (complete or incomplete) and bed availability (guaranteed bed, Fresno State Student Housing waiting list). It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact Fresno State Student Housing if notification status has not been received by August 1 (Fall/Spring) or December 1 (New Spring only). As cancellations are received, applicants from the Fresno State Student Housing waiting list are placed into these temporary or permanent bed spaces based on the date and time order the completed application was received. Waiting list applicants are not guaranteed a bed space. Applicants that have not been guaranteed or assigned a bed by the day prior to opening or offered a bed within one week after opening are assessed $50 Non-Refundable Application Fee and released from their license agreement. The $50 processing fee and $150 Security Deposit are not assessed. See waiting list letter for process and cancellation policy. Note: The University and Fresno State Student Housing’s admission and waiting lists are separate. It is each student’s responsibility to notify each area separately within the established deadlines dates if they will not attend the university and/or live on campus.
