The Residential Life program at Fresno State Student Housing is one of the many reasons to live on-campus. It is our hope that our students get involved with their community, succeed academically, and find opportunities to learn both in and out of the classroom. Research indicates that students who live on-campus for even just one year are more likely to complete their degrees in four years and achieve a higher grade point average than students who never live on-campus. Our staff is here to support our students, provide opportunities to interact with one another, and help our students enjoy their college experience.

Get involved in Housing Leadership

At Fresno State Student Housing, we want you to participate in community activities and explore your leadership potential. As a resident there are a variety of opportunities for you to develop leadership skills and discover where you belong.

Leadership Class

At the beginning of the spring semester we offer a leadership class (RA 70) for residents of Student Housing. This 9-week, 2 unit class covers the foundations of leadership, discussing and practicing the skills needed to be a good leader. Although this class is required for all of our Residential Life Staff positions, all students are welcomed and encouraged to take the class.

Residence Hall Association

RHA is our premier leadership group. Its members function as a representative body of the residents at Student Housing. RHA tackles issues and concerns relation to our students, always seeking to make on-campus residential living even better.

Meet our Residential Life Staff

These are the people responsible for keeping the campus safe, launching fun Student Housing events, and managing our Student Housing dorms.

Resident Directors (RD)

Resident Directors are graduate students who are responsible for the day-to-day operation and administration of a residence hall complex ranging from 200-400 residents. RDs supervise Assistant Resident Directors and Resident Advisors, handle student conflict and conduct issues within their complex, and intervene in crisis when it occurs. There is a Resident Director always on duty to handle situations that arise in the residence halls. (year round)

Assistant Resident Directors (ARD)

Assistant Resident Directors assist the Resident Directors with the supervision of the Resident Advisors in their area, serve as mentors to the RA staff, and functions as a Resident Advisor to the residents living on their floor.

Resident Advisors (RA)

Resident advisors are mentored by assistant resident directors and oversee resident-related programs and operations.

Public Safety Assistants (PSA)

Public Safety Assistants are responsible for the general security and safety of the Student Housing community. PSAs handle a variety of conflicts and crisis, and patrol the halls and grounds throughout the evening and early morning hours. PSAs also provide late night escorts to residents who do not want to walk alone on campus. (Summer PSA positions are also available.)
